This Privacy Policy explains how Rogg Tech (RC 9341708), the company behind Shelteer, collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use www.shelteer.com and the Shelteer mobile app. Effective date: Oct 21, 2026.

1. Who we are

Shelteer is an accommodation marketplace owned and operated by Rogg Tech, a company registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (RC 9341708). In this policy, "Shelteer", "we", "us" and "our" mean Rogg Tech and the Shelteer platform.

Rogg Tech is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We decide why and how your data is processed, and we are responsible for protecting it.

  • Email: shelteer01@gmail.com
  • Phone: +234 803 168 2766
  • Address: 14 Isuochi Street, Uwani, Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria

2. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to everyone who visits or uses Shelteer, whether or not they have an account. It covers:

  • our website, www.shelteer.com;
  • the Shelteer mobile app, once released; and
  • our emails, SMS messages and customer support channels.

We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). If you use Shelteer from outside Nigeria, we also respect the data protection rights your own country's laws give you, as far as they apply to us.

Please read this policy together with our Terms and Conditions.

4. Personal data we collect

We collect only the data we need to run Shelteer safely. It comes from three sources.

Data you give us

  • Account details: full name, email address, phone number, password (stored in protected form), and any other details you add to your profile, such as a profile photo, school or location.
  • Google sign-in: if you sign up with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We never receive your Google password.
  • Listings: property details, locations, photos, prices, Connector Fees and descriptions that Connectors post, and for Super Agent listings the annual rent and one-off charges.
  • Super Agent applications: your display name, profile picture or logo, short bio, phone/WhatsApp number, the real estate company you work with (or your business name), the schools and areas you cover, how many properties you manage, when you do inspections and your inspection fee.
  • Inspection bookings: the agent you booked, the number of days, your preferred dates, the properties you want to see and any note you add.
  • SaleOff: the items you list (photos, description, condition, price, location), the offers and counter-offers you make, and your purchases.
  • Adverts: if you advertise, your business name, the advert's text, image and link, the contact details you choose to show, and the schools you target.
  • Partnership requests: your company name, your name, email, phone, website and message when you use "Partner with Shelteer" — whether or not you have an account.
  • Messages: the content of messages you send to other users through Shelteer.
  • Reviews and ratings: reviews you write and ratings you give.
  • Withdrawal details: your bank account name, account number and bank name, which we need to pay out your withdrawals.
  • Deposit Account details: to open your Deposit Account we ask for your date of birth, gender and residential address, and your BVN. Your BVN goes straight to Squad, GTBank's payment platform (run by HabariPay, part of the GTCO group that owns Guaranty Trust Bank), which checks it against the BVN registry together with your name, date of birth, gender and phone number. Your BVN is not held by Shelteer: it passes through our system only to be forwarded to Squad at that moment, and is never saved to our database or written to our logs. We keep only whether your account was opened, and Squad's reason if it was not. Your Deposit Account itself is a GTBank account number issued through Squad.
  • Dispute and support information: what you tell us when you report a problem, request a refund or take part in a dispute, including any evidence you share.

Data collected automatically

  • Device and usage data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages viewed, links clicked, the time and length of visits, and the website that referred you.
  • Approximate location: estimated from your IP address.
  • Advert views and clicks: when an advert appears on your screen or you click it, we add one to that advert's total. We keep only the totals; we do not record or share who saw or clicked an advert. To avoid counting the same person twice, your browser remembers which adverts it has already counted during your visit.
  • Security data: login times, one-time password (OTP) requests and signs of suspicious activity.

Data from others

  • Our payment provider: Squad (GTBank) tells us when a deposit reaches your Deposit Account or a card payment succeeds, and gives us the status of payments and payouts.
  • Other users: a Client may confirm or dispute that a Connector helped them; a user may report another user or leave a review about them.

Apart from forwarding your BVN to Squad (GTBank) as described above, without keeping it, we do not collect government identity numbers such as NIN, identity documents or selfies. If this changes, see section 16. We never see or store full debit card details; card payments are made on Squad's own secure payment page.

6. How we share your personal data

We share personal data only as described below.

With other users

  • Your public profile (name, profile photo and ratings) is visible to other users.
  • A Connector's listings, including photos, location and Connector Fee, are visible to anyone browsing Shelteer.
  • A Super Agent's public profile (display name, photo or logo, bio, company or business name, schools, areas, properties managed, availability and inspection fee) is visible to anyone. Their phone/WhatsApp number is shown only to a Client who has secured an inspection fee with them.
  • When you book a Super Agent, the agent sees your username, your preferred dates, the properties you chose and your note.
  • On SaleOff, once a price is agreed, your phone number is shown to the other buyer or seller only if you choose "Share my number" for that deal. Meet-up times and places you propose are seen by the other side of that deal.
  • Adverts, including the business name and any contact details the advertiser chose to show, are visible to anyone. Advertisers see only total views and clicks.
  • SaleOff items, including their location, are visible to anyone. Sellers see the username of buyers who show interest, make offers or pay.
  • When you message someone, they see your messages and profile.
  • Reviews you write are shown publicly with your name.

Only share personal details such as your home address or bank details with other users when you truly need to.

Hosting and storage providersRunning the website and app, and storing dataData held on Shelteer

These providers may use your data only to provide their service to us, and must keep it secure. Squad and Google also process data under their own privacy policies.

For legal and safety reasons

We may share personal data with courts, regulators, the police or other authorities when the law requires it, or when we reasonably believe it is needed to prevent fraud, protect someone's safety or defend our legal rights.

If our business changes

If Rogg Tech merges with another company, is acquired, or sells all or part of Shelteer, your data may pass to the new owner. They must continue to protect it as this policy describes, or tell you about any changes.

7. Wallets, deposits, Safehold and withdrawals

Payments on Shelteer are processed by Squad, GTBank's licensed payment platform, run by HabariPay (part of the GTCO group, which owns Guaranty Trust Bank). Deposit Accounts are GTBank account numbers issued through Squad, and money in Wallets and Safehold is held through Squad.

  • Deposits: each user receives a dedicated Deposit Account number. Money paid into it is credited to your Wallet. We record the amount, date, sender name and reference.
  • Safehold: when a Client pays a Connector Fee or an inspection fee, or a buyer pays for a SaleOff item through Safehold, the money is held there. We record who paid, what it relates to (the listing, booking or item), and when it was released or refunded. Each kind is recorded separately.
  • Withdrawals: we collect your bank details to pay you, and record each withdrawal and our 3% fee.
  • Refunds and disputes: when a Client asks for a Connector Fee or inspection fee back, or a SaleOff buyer reports a problem, we may contact the Client, the Connector and anyone else involved during the review period of about 21 days. We keep records of what each party tells us.

We use this data to move your money correctly, prevent fraud and meet our legal duties.

8. Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website.

  • Essential cookies keep you logged in and keep your session secure. Shelteer cannot work without them.
  • Analytics cookies from Google Analytics help us understand how people use Shelteer, such as which pages are most visited. Google Analytics collects device and usage data and an approximate location.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell data to advertisers.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, you may not be able to log in. You can also stop Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

9. International data transfers

Some of our service providers, such as Google, store or process data on servers outside Nigeria. Users outside Nigeria also send their data to us in Nigeria.

When we transfer personal data out of Nigeria, we do so only as the NDPA allows, for example:

  • where the recipient's country or organisation gives your data an adequate level of protection;
  • under contractual safeguards with the provider; or
  • where the transfer is needed to perform our contract with you, or you have consented to it.

10. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it.

DataHow long we keep it
Account and profile detailsWhile your account is open, then up to 12 months after closure to handle questions, disputes or fraud
ListingsWhile live; removed or anonymised when deleted, unless needed for a dispute
MessagesWhile your account is open, and longer if they relate to a dispute

Dispute and refund recordsAt least 5 years after the dispute is closed
Analytics dataUp to 14 months
Marketing preferencesUntil you opt out, plus a record of your opt-out

When we no longer need data, we delete it or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you.

11. How we protect your data

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your data, including:

  • encrypted connections (HTTPS) across Shelteer;
  • passwords stored in protected (hashed) form, never in plain text;
  • email and SMS OTPs to confirm it is really you;
  • access to personal data limited to people who need it for their work;
  • card payments handled on Squad's own payment page, which meets the PCI DSS card-security standard; and
  • monitoring for suspicious logins and transactions.

No online system is completely secure. Keep your password and OTPs private. Shelteer staff will never ask for your password or OTP.

If a data breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, as the NDPA requires. Where the breach is likely to put you at high risk, we will also tell you promptly and explain what you can do to protect yourself.

12. Your rights

Under the NDPA, you have the right to:

  1. Be informed about how we use your data, which is what this policy does.
  2. Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  3. Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
  4. Delete your data, where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.
  5. Restrict how we use your data in certain situations.
  6. Object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
  7. Data portability: receive your data in a common electronic format, or have it sent to another organisation.
  8. Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent. This does not affect processing already carried out.
  9. Not be subject to decisions made solely by automated means that significantly affect you.

To use any of these rights, email shelteer01@gmail.com with the subject "Data Request". We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We will respond within 30 days, free of charge unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.

Some rights have limits. For example, we cannot delete transaction records the law requires us to keep, or data we need for an open dispute.

13. Young users

Shelteer is open to users aged 16 and above, because many students begin looking for accommodation at that age. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 16 to create an account.

The NDPA treats anyone under 18 as a child. If you are 16 or 17:

  • you must have your parent's or guardian's consent to use Shelteer;
  • we may ask your parent or guardian to confirm that consent; and
  • we process only the data needed to help you find accommodation, and we do not send you marketing.

If we learn that we hold data from someone under 16, or from a 16- or 17-year-old without the consent we need, we will delete it. Parents and guardians can contact us at shelteer01@gmail.com.

Listings, messages or our pages may link to other websites. We are not responsible for how those websites handle your data, so please read their privacy policies.

15. Your choices

  • Marketing: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or email us.
  • Profile: edit your profile details in your account settings.
  • Cookies: manage them in your browser settings.
  • Account closure: ask us to close your account at any time. We will first settle any Wallet balance or open Safehold as set out in our Terms and Conditions.

16. Future features

We may add features such as identity verification using NIN, ID documents or selfies to make Shelteer safer. Before we collect any such data, we will update this policy, tell you what we will collect and why, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we will also notify you by email, SMS or a notice on Shelteer before they take effect.

18. Contact us and complaints

For questions about this policy or your data:

  • Email: shelteer01@gmail.com
